Pickles is a rescue and now living at Turtle Pants Farm in Pittsboro NC. I had the honor of meeting Pickles and the other animals on this farm during my recent travels. Amy (a dear friend and fellow animal advocate) had recently visited the farm and was interested in introducing me to the family and animals. As we drove up the driveway I was in awe of the beauty and spaciousness of this farm. A family homestead bought in the 1960s by Jeremi’s grandfather-in-law, a very kind soul who loved animals. It has become a recognized 501c3 for all species animal rescue and sanctuary, offering sanctuary and potential adoption to species ranging from cats and chickens, to donkeys and cows.
It was refreshing to hear Jeremi’s story and her focus on rescuing those she knows she can take good care of rather than trying to save everything! Doing it well was more her focus. And from what I was seeing and feeling, that is exactly how her passion is manifesting. Jeremi introduced me to the horses she has taken in as I was initially interested in adopting one of them and the reason for the visit was to meet him. Ben is a magnificent presence and so very wise. My questions for him included ‘Did he want to leave the farm?’, ‘What was his purpose here?’ ‘How can he and the other animals be supported, and what is his connection to Jeremi?’ It was important for me to know if Ben wanted to leave the farm because I was not going to take him home if his own mission was focused at the farm. Ben was very open and clear on his answers and the additional messages he had for Jeremi. He is the Ambassador of the farm. What a gift to honor this stunning horse and engaging in open communication rather than not give him a voice and choice in this possible adoption. I felt grateful to provide such profound messages and know he is exactly where he needs to be supporting Jeremi.
Feeling complete (Ben had walked away having shared all he wanted to) we made our way across the street to the rest of the property and where the barn and the farm animals are residing. This beautiful property has such vibrant energy and the cows, alpacas, pigs and ducks were all so peaceful as they meandered around their paddocks. The potbellied pigs had their own areas and then we went into the barn. This amazing, old 1858-built barn had such history attached to it. The beams and workmanship spoke to the era.
Here is where I met Pickles, a recent rescue with many health issues. Pickles was a feeder pig, but now weighing 250-300lbs, he is no longer technically a feeder pig. Thankfully he landed at Jeremi’s farm to now have a loving rest of his life. What is a feeder pig? This was a new term to me also! A feeder pig is a pig with the sole intention of slaughter after a prolonged feeding period that weighs 100 pounds or less.
As we settled into the barn Pickles came over and laid down facing away from me, I knelt down and began offering healing energy to his hip and back leg. Jeremi’s mum had joined us and we chatted for a while. Pickles chose to reveal some of his history and the cruelty he had received. It breaks my heart that Humanity has become so detached from the honor of all beings and the gratitude for an animal that is providing meat for nourishment.
Pickles was a feeder pig and their life is far from the serene farm he has now landed at. He was treated as a product with an outcome purely and selfishly created for an industry that has forgotten about care. It reminds me of how carefully I source my meat when I do feel the need to eat it. He had been abused and the methods used had stopped him from being able to walk! Pickles is an ambassador for reminding us to be aware of what we eat and the life it led. Everything has energy….. If you eat meat from an animal who knew pain, discomfort and mistreatment, what does that do to us when we ingest it? Pickles shared his sad story, it broke my heart that a living, feeling and intelligent creature could be treated as a tool, a product, a being that can be raised without emotional interaction, and he is just one pig!!
After spending time with Pickles and witnessing him shift as he told his story, I was moved from deep in my heart to bring his story out and to begin a mission to help other animals and sanctuaries by giving these heart-felt creatures an opportunity to share their stories too. In 20 years of this passion I have witnessed the healing that happens not only for the animal, but the people who are caring for them. It is astounding and profound.
If you would like to know more about the lives of these feeder pigs, their purpose, treatment and slaughter, along with details on how the meat is treated with chemicals and antibiotics (which is then consumed by people), check out this link: https://www.peta.org/issues/animals-used-for-food/animals-used-food-factsheets/pigs-intelligent-animals-suffering-factory-farms-slaughterhouses/ (I am not affiliated with PETA, it was the first link I read through that shared the information I was looking to incorporate into this article.
Animals like Pickles, and many others who are rescued, are becoming Ambassadors for the truth, for showing the disconnection from honor and the uncaring, cruel evolution of the meat industry. This information is not shared unless we look for it, or we choose not to know (which was me for many years of my life). Their unconditional love and willingness to trust after landing in a positive and loving Sanctuary, is a testimony to being open to their guidance and the opportunity to bring balance to how and where our food comes from. This is a story to offer an opening to knowing your meat, knowing what you need to be healthy, and choosing to consume from a loving and trusted source. I have always said that I want to eat happy eggs from happy chickens!! Emotions and energy of all we touch, eat and surround ourselves with can be scientifically shown through imaging.
AND, change is possible – check out this article about Temple Grandin who changed the way slaughterhouses treated their cattle with two inventions to ease the cattle’s stress and anxiety.
An Opportunity to Tell Your Story: I would love to hear of sanctuaries that would like to schedule a visit and open to an intuitive experience that transcends human and offers a connection to pure, unconditional love.
